  Undoubtedly, the ability to self-learning has suddenly become a prerequisite for living in this new world. It is necessary to survival; your own survival as an individual, and also the survival of the human race.

According to survey results, A highly self-learner is one who exhibits initiative, independence, and persistence in learning; one who accepts responsibility for his or her own learning and views problems as challenges, not obstacles. a self-learner is a one who is capable of self-discipline and has a high degree of curiosity.

Characteristics of Self-Learning:

As we mentioned later, Self-learners are aware of their own learning desires and interests, confident of their learning abilities based on previous learning experiences, capable of setting their own goals in learning, are able to choose strategies for learning, are capable of being self-motivated and self-disciplined, understand the process of learning, and are aware of their own learning skills, including strengths and weaknesses in learning.

1- Self-Directedness

The successful self-directed learner does not wait for someone else to say you must learn this. A learning activity that is self-motivated receives an abundant amount of the learner’s energy. Interest produced during motivation fosters efficiency in self-directed learning.

So, Self-directed learners have a variety of levels of motivation, and they acknowledge responsibility for themselves as learners. This self-directedness takes place continuously; it is a lifelong process.

2- independence

Self-directed learners do not always act autonomously or independently. Indeed, increasingly they must cultivate their networks to learn effectively. Nonetheless, successful self-directed learners know how to be self-reliant.

3- Readiness

Readiness refers to the degree of desire to learn. It further signifies motivation and the need for the learner to be prepared for the learning activity. Readiness is a preliminary attitude in engaging in a learning activity. Motivation creates a reason for learning.

The desire or inclination produced during motivation must be maintained for the best development and efficient growth of the learner specifically to become a lifelong learner. Readiness includes learner’s purpose or interest to learn, the learner’s self-concept and self-confidence, the learner’s levels of ambition for learning, and the learner’s understanding and evaluation of how well he or she is doing in relation to his or her goals.

4- Organizing time

While self-directed learning does not require the obsession with productivity that seems to be everywhere on the Interweb, the successful self-directed learner nonetheless knows how to find and manage time effectively to allow for learning.

5- Set a plan

The successful self-directed learner recognizes that Setting a plan is part of setting the pace and ultimately reaching the destination.

Finally, we can say that self-directed learner is a one who has a strong desire to learn or change and is self-confident, one who is able to use basic study skills, organize his or her time and set an appropriate pace for learning, and to develop a plan for completing work.
