I discovered some surprising aspects of the wisdom for new wahms by listening to Johnny Cash lately. I thought about sharing some of these nuggets from the Rockabilly legend.
1) Understand your man … er, reference market!
Quite right. Do you understand your target market? Are you aware of your driving needs, desires and ambitions? Does your website speak to your target audience? Otherwise, perhaps you should make some changes or the visitor of your website or the customer will be “gone like a wild goose in the winter” too!
2) A boy called Sue
Life is not easy for a boy named Sue … and even life is not easy for a wahm. In your business you will have those killers, dream thieves, fun puppets … whatever you want to call them. You will have people trying to tell you that you can not reach your goals, that what you feel will not work. Do not let it break down!
Sue’s father told him, “This world is hard, and if you do, you must be tough.”
How can you become tough in your business?
3) Man in black or branding 101
J.R. Cash was not wearing the black dress because he had nothing else to wear. It was his trademark. He wore all the black for a reason.
And you? Are you working on your brand? In a world full of Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewises, how will you stand out? And remember, your target market does not have to be just like you – Johnny Cash wrote Folsom Prison Blues and connected with inmates when he had never set foot in jail!
4) The legend of John Henry’s Hammer
This song has two tips of wisdom:
a) Discover your business and you will be successful
John Henry’s dad told him: “Learn to shoot a jack, learn to draw a track, learn to collect and shovel too”. Are you learning everything you can about Internet Marketing so you can succeed in your business? Reinvestite in ebook, coaching and mentoring and software like the hammer of John Henry?
b) Technology has its place but can not take the place of humans.
When the steam engine threatened to take the place of men, Johnny showed that humans eventually have more value. Learn to use technology (as autoresponders) but remember that the visitor to your website is a human being and injects yourself into your marketing efforts.
5) One piece at a time
This ballad is about a man who decides to build a Cadillac. Steals one piece at a time from the assembly line “and it did not cost him a penny”. But in the end, it did not work exactly as planned!
Does your website look like a jalopy assembled together? Are you not willing to spend money on your domain and hosting, the content of a free site cluttered with advertising?
6) In The Jailhouse Now
Please do not throw away your hard work by doing one of the following things:
Copy of articles or other people’s content
By clicking on your AdSense ads
Do not keep records and neglect to pay taxes
It’s not worth it, and you could be in the prison. Walk the Line much better, so you can sleep at night.
7) Ring of fire
Maybe you made a bad choice … you entered a love story for shotguns with a business that is not right for you. Do not be afraid to realize it, put everything in order and start all over again! Do not hit your head against the wall if, after working hard on a project, you decide it is not profitable. Better find your correspondence and pour your energies into that.
In this song, June Carter Cash tells about her growing attraction for John. Although they were both involved with other people, they were obviously soul mates and ended up making music and growing old together for the next 40 years.
